Top 7 Denture FAQs Answered

If you’re new to dentures—or even if you’ve worn them for years—you likely have questions. At Community Denture Centre, we believe in educating and supporting our patients every step of the way. Below are some of the most common questions Leigh and our expert team hear from patients, along with honest, helpful answers.

1. Do dentures hurt?

It’s normal to experience a short adjustment period, especially with new or immediate dentures. However, properly fitted dentures should never cause ongoing pain. If you’re experiencing discomfort, we can make adjustments to improve the fit.

2. How long do dentures last?

With proper care, dentures typically last 5–7 years. Over time, your mouth and jaw shape can change, so relines or replacements may be needed to maintain comfort and function.

3. Can I eat normally with dentures?

Yes! It may take a bit of practice at first, but most patients adjust well. Start with soft foods and work your way up to harder textures. Implant-supported dentures can offer even more security for chewing.

4. How should I clean my dentures?

Daily cleaning is essential. Use a soft brush and denture cleaner (never toothpaste) and soak them overnight. Don’t forget to gently clean your gums and tongue, too.

5. What are “Same Day Teeth”?

We offer immediate dentures, meaning you can have your teeth removed and leave with a new smile the very same day. It’s a fast, convenient solution for many patients.

6. Can I sleep with my dentures in?

While it’s possible, we usually recommend removing your dentures at night to give your gums a chance to rest and to prevent bacteria buildup. Soaking them overnight also helps keep them clean and maintain their shape.

7. Are dentures covered by insurance?

Many dental plans cover a portion of the cost for dentures, but it depends on your provider and plan. We are happy to help you navigate your dental coverage and submit claims on your behalf to make the process as smooth as possible.
